관객 참여형 사운드 퍼포먼스 <동그라미 앙상블>은 공연 참여자들의 여러 의견, 입장, 태도의 혼합(mixing)과 매시업(mash up)을
음악적으로, 전자적으로 심지어 신체적으로 시도한다. 그럴싸해 보이는 이 모임이 관객들에게 바라는 바는 크지 않다.
어떤 특정한 결론, 완결된 곡 그리고 도출된 합의가 나올 것이라는 실용주의적 입장과 민주주의적 기대를 포기하길 바라는 것 정도이다.
왜냐하면 이 공연은 목표가 부재하고, 참여자들의 다양한 의견이 서로 맴돌고 길을 잃는 엔트로피 높은 축제이자,
소리, 신호, 제스처, 전파, 음파 등이 경쟁하는 끝없는 수다이기 때문이다.

스마트폰을 들고 참여하는 관객들은 네트워크를 구성하고 웹 페이지를 스크롤하여 음악적, 신체적 발화를 하게 된다.
아니 정확히 말한다면 다수의 발화 행위를 공유하게 된다. 참여자는 발화 행위의 주체이자, 교묘하게 앙상블 되는 소리, 의견,
행위의 재귀적 수신자이고, 동시에 여러 파동의 개별적인 매질(medium)이다.

개인들의 발화를 감각적으로 연결하는 것이 전화(tele-phone)라는 매체의 오래된 운명이었다. 이 오래된 욕망이
똑똑한 전자적 장비, 개인화된 네트워크, 민주주의에 대한 불신, 우정국이라는 공간,
다이애나밴드라는 아티스트 그리고 당신을 만나 어떻게 표출될지 궁금하다면 함께 모여보자.
Participatory sound performance, “Round Ensemble” attempts at mixing and mashing up the
positions, opinions, and attitudes of the performance participants musically, electronically, and
even physically. Although this concept may sound grandiose or high-flown, what this meeting
expects from the audience is not something grand. It is only asking them to let go of the pragmatic
positions and democratic expectations that a well-thought-out conclusion, completed music, or
neatly-arranged agreement would come out of it. This performance lacks a particular purpose, and
is at once a high-entropy festival in which the diverse opinions of the participants lose their ways
and wander and hover around, and an endless chatter in which the sounds, signals, gestures, radio
waves, and sound waves fly around and compete with one another.
Audiences who participate in the performance with their smartphones produce a musical or
physical enunciation by forming networks and scrolling webpages. Or, more precisely, they share
the acts of enunciating performed by multiple people. Participants are simultaneously the subjects
of the enunciation; reflexive recipients of the sounds, opinions and actions that create a subtle and
unlikely ensemble; and the individual mediums of various waves.
It has been an enduring fate of a telephone to be the medium that connects individuals’
enunciations on sensory levels. Come gather round if you are interested in finding out how this
enduring desire gets expressed in its encounter with smart electronic devices, personalized
networks, distrust of democracy, the space called Post Territory Ujeongguk, the artist called Diana
band, and, most importantly, you.
